This project is a careful restoration of a Classic American Foursquare or “Prairie Box” home and garden, originally built in 1905 on an 8,000 square foot lot. This renovation project is historically significant on the California Register as the Foursquare style. It is an excellent example of Carmel’s early residential architecture.
Kathy Best Design, along with the team including Selander Architects, Richard Frye Construction, and James Goodman Paint Color and Finish Consultant, beautifully brought the home to its original state with board and batten interior wall finishing and fir floors with updated kitchen and bathrooms. The client’s existing furniture was combined with antique furniture with fresh fabrics and accessories to complement the space. A winding garden path around the perimeter of the restored garden takes one past crooked split limbs of numerous Coastal Live Oaks and a majestic Coastal Redwood.
